Summary of Practice
GINA M. SORGE practices in matters venued in the Chancery Division/Family Part, products liability and personal injury law. She also has trial experience in matters concerning complex commercial litigation, contracts and legal malpractice actions.
Regarding Family Law matters, she has represented clients in palimony actions, successfully arguing that a cause of action cannot lie without proof of cohabitation, which subsequent opinions of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division, established as precedent to law. Subsequently, New Jersey statutory law was amended to require memorization of an agreement of support for a party to assert a palimony claim.
Ms. Sorge has represented several clients with respect to applications for relocation outside of the State of New Jersey with their children. She was successful in arguing that past dealings between the parties should be heavily weighed in consideration as to whether the children’s relationship with the other parent will be continuous, and where a party is seeking to relocate with the children to his or her fiancé’s home state, the ability of the fiancé to relocate to New Jersey should be subject to consideration.
Ms. Sorge represented a family of a man who died after he was electrocuted by volts escaping from a fallen powerline. In a matter entitled The Estate of Thomas v. Jersey Central Power & Light, FirstEnergy Service Company & the Township of Andover, et al, Ms. Sorge prosecuted claims that the power company had failed to comply with the New Jersey Public Board of Utilities directive issued five years prior to this incident and that the Township of Andover failed to warn its residents of the existence of the down, live powerline. After four years of litigation, this matter settled on the eve of trial for the sum of $9,425,000.00.
Ms. Sorge was listed by the American Institute of Family Lawyers as “10 Best Female Law Attorney in New Jersey” in 2021.
Ms. Sorge is certified by the Supreme Court, State of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney wherein she received her certification in February of 1996 and was recertified in July, 2022. She has also been Certified as a Matrimonial Law Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey Board of Attorney Certification, since February, 2013.
